Two American oil giants have announced changes at the top.
Michael K. Wirth has been appointed to the post of vice chairman at multinational Chevron (NYSE:CVX). He is currently executive vice president of midstream and development.
Dr. Susan K. Avery has also joined the board of directors at Exxon Mobil Corporation (NYSE:XOM).
Avery, an atmospheric scientist, served as president and director of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution from 2008 to 2015, and was the first woman and the first atmospheric scientist to hold the position.
Wirth will join the Chevron’s board of directors, adding policy, government and public affairs to his existing portfolio of responsibilities.
Currently, he oversees midstream and development having held a number of positions since joining the firm in 1982.
John S. Watson, Chevron’s chairman and chief executive officer said: “As a senior officer of Chevron, Mike has made significant contributions to the company’s success.
“Mike’s experience, proven leadership and record of accomplishment will enable him to make a strong contribution to our board.”
Both Avery and Wirth will take up the posts on February 1.
