Aberdeenshire East MSP Gillian Martin is to write to the Scottish Government over alleged discrimination against job hunting former oil and gas workers.
The SNP politician raised the issue with the Scottish Minister for Business, Innovation and Energy Paul Wheelhouse at Holyrood last month.
Ms Martin also wrote to the UK’s Employment Minster Damian Hinds after constituents raised concerns over job adverts which specifically said they would not take applications from those in the oil and gas industry.
Since the downturn in 2014, more than 120,000 people across the UK have lost their jobs, according to the most recent figures from industry body Oil & Gas UK.
Ms Martin said: “Thousands upon thousands of workers left redundant as a result of the oil price decline across the North East have been left struggling to find alternative employment.
“Those facing economic hardship – with some still searching for work even after two years – are being penalised simply for the industry they used to work in by potential employers.
“Despite writing to the UK Government last month I’ve still to hear back on how this issue will be addressed.”
The energy cabinet minister has asked Ms Martinto write to him with further details of the allegations.
