Shell will make about 230 employees redundant in Norway as two of its projects draw to a close.
Norway’s Safe trade union said 75 full-time Shell employees and 156 contractors would be affected by the cuts.
Workers involved in projects at the Nyhamna plant and Draugen oil field were notified about the decision earlier this week.
Safe’s representative at the gas plant, Svein Joar Dørum, said: “We have participated in a project to strengthen Nyhamna competitiveness, and the company has chosen a solution that we as a club do not agree, determine Dørum.
Meanwhile, Statoil is planning to axe about 500 full-time positions in Norway over the next three years, according to the Industri Energi union.
