Aqualis Offshore has been awarded a contract to provide specialist floatover services for an offshore platform in Bahrain.
The marine and offshore engineering consultancy, part of Oslo-listed Aqualis ASA, will deliver the project as a subcontractor to OCEANUS, who are in charge of transportation and installation on behalf of South Korean contractor GS E&S.
OCEANUS will transport 7,000 tonnes of topside from Laem Chabang, Thailand, to the LNG Terminal location in Bahrain.
In conjunction, Aqualis Offshore will provide project management services, specialist floatover engineering, and supervision for loadout and floatover installation operations, with work running until 2018.
New facilities will include a fixed platform, a floating storage unit and an onshore receiving facility.
Phil Lenox, Asia Pacific director of Aqualis Offshore, said: “This is an important project for Aqualis Offshore. Topside floatovers are a specialist competence of ours which we are very happy to utilise in what has been a somewhat weak floatover market in recent years.
“Although this is not a particularly heavy topside compared to many floatovers, the project has some interesting challenges with the shallow water depth. This contract also highlights the importance of having a physical presence in both Asia and the Middle East.”
