OTC 2017 was hailed as a success this year as firms took advantage of an upturn in confidence in the global oil and gas sector.
Speaking at the Hilton Houston Post Oak Hotel, where a number of Aberdonians make their base for the four day event, a number of people confirmed that OTC remains a good place to network and do business.
JJ Welsh, vice president of Spex Group, said: “I’ve come for 12 years. I’ve only missed one. I’ve been here when it is been good and when it has dipped. I have seen an upturn this year.
“For us this year we are in a scenario whereby people who have money to spend are spending money. If you have done your homework and have the right technology and the right solutions it is going in the right direction.
“On that basis for us OTC has been much better than it has been for the last three or four years. I hope they continue to see an interest both from majors and major oil field service companies continues and they deliver the results they are all promising.”
Barry Marshall, global business development manager, EnerQuip. said: “OTC has allowed us, given the fact we have opened premises here in Houston, to cement relationships with local clients here.
“Being a global marketplace it also allows us to continue to grow our business. Given this company works on a worldwide stage we need to be at OTC. It is the only place that covers the whole world in one city.”
Douglas Craig, chairman, Craig Group, said: “Of 30 years this has been one of the best despite the recession. There is more optimism and reassurance, particularly for younger companies to expand and network and develop their businesses. There has been a great network of people here assisting that, from the banks to Scottish Development International. So there is every opportunity here to give a young company the opportunity to develop.”
Rod Hutchison, solicitor, Ledingham Chalmers, said: “It has been fantastic. It is great for opportunities to network. You see old faces and new ones. There have been people here who I haven’t seen before. It is an absolute showcase for talent.”
