Statoil has received consent from the Norwegian offshore safety authority to drill an exploration well in the Barents Sea.
The well, which will be called ‘Gemini Nord’ is in the Hoop area in the Barents Sea – about 275 kilometres from Nordkapp and 200 kilometres from Bear Island.
Water depth at the site is 447 metres, and the drilling is estimated to last for 19 days, starting this month.
The well will be drilled by Songa Enabler, which is a semi-submersible mobile drilling facility of the CAT D type.
The rig was delivered by the Daewoo yard in South Korea in 2016 and is owned and operated by Songa Offshore.
