Oilpro, a popular oil and gas networking site, will permanently shut after its founder pleaded guilty to stealing data from rival site Rigzone.
The site sent its members a statement detailing official closure which is set for tomorrow. The timeline gives users just 48 hours to download their contacts and information.
The statement read: “It is with great sadness that we announce the closure of Oilpro.com. Many years ago, we set out to create a vibrant online community of oil and gas professionals. To that end, we were successful – you were successful. We thank you for participating and we hope that Oilpro has made a positive contribution to your career.
“The bulk of Oilpro’s functionality is still available to allow members to download any of their content they would like to save. We will bring the entire website offline at the end of business, August 2. In the meantime, you may access your contributions on your profile. Thank you again for your support and we wish you the best of luck in the future.”
The closure comes seven months after its founder plead guilty to fraud.
In spring 2016, FBI agents arrested founder David Kent on charges that he allegedly hacked and stole user information from a rival site he founded back in 2000.
He stepped down as president and CEO of the site, which was founded in 2013. His wife Casey later took up the role.
