Energy services group, Global Energy, has today announced the successful removal of three thrusters from the Buchan Alpha rig, currently under decommission.
The rig, which recently arrived in Lerwick Harbor for decommissioning, had to have the underside thrusters of Legs ‘A’, ‘C’ and ‘E’ removed to allow the rig to sit alongside the quay.
A full dive team of 15 divers, including rigging support and diamond wire cutters, undertook 80 dives to complete the separation without incident.
Over its 36 year lifespan, Buchan Alpha yielded 150 million barrels of oil from its North Sea position.
