A three-day biennial symposium and exhibition aimed at driving radical digital and technological innovation within upstream oil and gas will be held for the first time in Aberdeen.
ENGenious will be hosted by the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre (AECC) from September 4-6, 2018.
Organised by the Society of Petroleum Engineers and Reed Exhibition, the symposium will on focus on four issues: automation and control systems, data and analytics, robotics and smart communications.
The 2018 event will be chaired by Matthias Heilmann, chief digital officer for Baker Hughes with Houston-based Ahmed Hashmi, head of upstream technology at BP as vice chair.
Mr Heilmann said: “With content highlighting the latest reservoir, drilling and production software and technology innovations, this event is led by the industry for the industry to enable discovery, learning and discussion. Differentiated from other ‘Industrial Internet of Things’ or technology-driven events, ENGenious will provide deep technical content, and provocative forward-looking strategy discussions to move the upstream industry into the digital industrial era.”
Gareth Rapley, ENGenious exhibition director, said: “ENGenious will be delivered by the team behind SPE Offshore Europe and Aberdeen was the global location of choice. Delegates will be assured of first class programme content from top international experts while exhibitors will have the opportunity to showcase their capabilities to a highly targeted audience.”
Mr Hashmi added: “Digital is disrupting and fundamentally changing the nature of our work. Pervasive adoption of digital technology across our industry will drive transformation and open up exciting digital career opportunities to serve the world’s growing energy needs. Digital forces will allow us to continuously adapt, strengthen and reinvent our industry. I am very excited to be co-chairing this conference; the diversity of the ENGenious programme offers something for every discipline in the upstream sector.”
