
Shell geologist Torgeir Stordal has been hired as the exploration director in North Sea government agency the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate.
The 55-year-old, who starts his new role today, studied applied geophysics and has a Master of Science from the University of Bergen (1987).
He has worked for Shell since 1989.
His roles at the supermajor have included time as a geophysicist and geologist within the exploration and field development.
In recent years, he has held several management positions within the exploration department.
During the period 2009 to 2013, he was the exploration manager in Norske Shell and has since held a global role within resource evaluation at Shell’s headquarters in the Netherlands.
Stordal will take over from Sissel Eriksen, who will be leaving the management team after completing her rotation.
Eriksen has been the exploration director in the NPD since September 2007.
