A Centrica subsidiary has been handed an improvement notice over processes on an unmanned installation in the East Irish Sea.
An inspector from the Health and Safety Executive visited the Calder platform in July and found that there inadequacies in inspection routines.
The watchdog representative said that no adequate corrosion inspection regimes were in place to examine pipelines that were covered in insulation or blanket type fire proofing.
A Centrica spokesman said: “We have received an improvement notice from the HSE after a routine inspection of the normally-unmanned Calder installation in Morecambe Bay. The notice focused on inspection processes, rather than an incident.
“We have a comprehensive procedure in place to inspect and maintain the equipment and pipework on all our platforms.
“Keeping our people and the environment safe is the most important thing we do, and we have immediately put additional plans in place to meet the concerns raised by the HSE.”
