Japan’s biggest gas supplier will not accept contracts for long-term purchases of liquefied natural gas (LNG) that contain clauses that restrict where the gas can be sold, according to Reuters news agency.
The company’s president was reported to have made a statement on the firm’s stance on Thursday morning.
Michiaki Hirose is said to have made the following comment during a briefing on midterm business plans: “We have no intention of signing new contracts unless the destinations are free.”
The Japan Fair Trade Commission outlawed certain restrictions on LNG contracts earlier this year in a bold move to protect end users.
