LEADING lights of the subsea oil and gas sector were honoured last night.
Industry body Subsea UK announced the winners of its third annual business awards at a dinner in the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre.
The Subsea Business Awards 2009 highlight the hard work and excellence of organisations and individuals from throughout the UK.
Subsea engineering and construction group Subsea 7 won the award for company of the year.
Best new business was Flexlife, which was set up in April 2007. It identified a gap in the market for an innovative consultancy to offer solutions for flexible-pipe projects, to deliver them and deal with integrity management.
Young personality of the year went to James Knipe, of subsea riser engineering consultant MCS.
He joined the firm as a graduate in October 2007 and was promoted to project engineer within six months.
The award for greatest individual contribution to the industry went to David Brookes, of BP. Since joining the company in 1980 as a pipeline engineer, he has worked his way up the ranks and was recently appointed chief subsea engineer.
Subsea UK chief executive Alistair Birnie said: “These awards are an opportunity to highlight those who have made a difference to our industry by demonstrating flair, creativity and vision.
“Yet again, the standard of entries was very high, displaying the broad range of personal and corporate success stories within the subsea sector.
“Not only are the awards a celebration of our industry’s success, but also a formal recognition of those talented individuals who have the ability and desire to take the industry into a new era.”
