Scottish company Roberts Pipeline Machining (RPM) has launched a north-east recruitment drive to cater for growing demand for the products and services it supplies to the oil and gas industry.
Motherwell-based RPM is part of MB Aerospace Holdings, which specialises in supply-chain management, design, integration and the assembly of aerospace systems and components.
MB Aerospace said yesterday that RPM had secured contracts totalling nearly £500,000 as a result of a global expansion programme, which would see several sales engineers taken on in the Aberdeen area.
The group has no base or workforce in the north-east, although former parent Motherwell Bridge operated a subsidiary – inspection and testing company MB inspection – in the area.
MB Inspection later became Applus RTD UK as a result of its acquisition by Dutch firm Applus RTD in 2008.
MB Aerospace said RPM had recently been awarded contracts from a host of leading oil and gas companies in the Middle East and north Africa. It added that the subsidiary was looking to build on its growing international reputation by expanding its activities into Singapore.
RPM specialises in the design and manufacture of portable machining systems for use on land, topside or subsea for the oil and gas industry. General manager Norman Roberts said: “In 2009, we identified a number of opportunities overseas and embarked on an ambitious expansion programme which has proved successful.
“We’re now concentrating our efforts on the Asian market. We have also continued to grow our UK business and are currently seeking to recruit a number of sales engineers in Aberdeen to cope with a marked increase in demand.”
