Oil service firm Aker Offshore Partner (AOP) is to occupy new offices in Aberdeen and plans to recruit up to 50 additional staff.
It has agreed a long-term lease deal with developer Miller Cromdale for Freedom House in Old Ford Road.
The five-storey complex occupies a site fronting on to North Esplanade West and overlooking the River Dee.
AOP will use it as its key service base for clients in the centre and south side of Aberdeen.
The 32,000 square-foot Grade A property is designed to accommodate more than 300 people and some staff will initially relocate from smaller offices elsewhere in the city.
The business is also looking to recruit up to 50 staff to be based in Freedom House as it gears up to address anticipated growth in activity.
AOP managing director Rod Buchan said: “We are probably a rarity in Scotland in moving into new-build accommodation this year.
“This move is a long-term investment for Aker Solutions and underlines our commitment to Aberdeen and our clients in the city.
“We are using this move to provide clients with an improved level of service, while at the same time working to deliver them lower costs through improved working practices.
“We have created a great deal of positive momentum in our business over the past couple of years and we are in line to significantly advance our market position by the end of 2009. The new office complex will be a key base for us in achieving our growth objectives.”
AOP, which will continue to have its Granite City headquarters at Kirkhill Industrial Estate, Dyce, is expected to move into Freedom House in September on an initial 10-year lease.
Martin Callan, a director at Miller Cromdale, said: “To secure such a strong tenant in the current market demonstrates the high quality of the building and the convenience to staff of a city-centre location. We are sure that the move by AOP to the building will have significant cost advantages and efficiency improvements for the company.
“This is our fourth project in the harbour area which we believe has enormous potential as a growing business location.”
AOP is one of the main Aker Solutions companies in the Granite City.
Aker Solutions employs about 2,500 people in the Aberdeen area; 1,000 of them at AOP.
