Shell’s Coeus well in the Norwegian Sea is dry.
The Scarabeo 8 rig drilled the wildcat well, 165km north-west of Molde.
The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate said reservoir quality was poor.
It was the first exploration well in production licence 832, awarded in 2015.
It will be permanently plugged and abandoned.
Scarabeo 8 will now drill wildcat well 6406/6-5 in production licence 225 B in the Norwegian Sea where Total E&P Norge is the operator.
