PETROBRAS has revealed that it has made a significant gas and condensate field discovery in the pre-salt layer in block BM-S-24 of the ultra-deepwater Santos Basin.
Brazil’s flagship energy company said the discovery was made with its 1-BRSA-559-RJS (1-RJS-652) probe – the Jupiter well. It said the find has proved the existence of a large natural gas and condensate field in the Santos Basin’s pre-salt layer. The pioneer well was drilled to a total depth of 5,252m some 290km off the coast of the state of Rio de Janeiro and 37km east of the Tupi area in waters 2,187m deep.
