ANADARKO Petroleum has made a major “pre-salt” oil discovery on the Wahoo prospect in Brazil’s prolific Campos Basin with its 1-APL-1-ESS well drilled on block BM-C-30 in some 1,417m (4,650ft) water depth. Preliminary results, based on wireline logs, indicate at least 60m (195ft) of net pay with similar characteristics to the nearby Jubarte 1-ESS-103A well.
Meanwhile, Petrobras has confirmed that it has achieved another light oil discovery in the southern part of the Santos Basin on block BM-S-40 – the latest in a series of finds over recent months. The success does not end there as Petrobras has also reported that it has completed the drilling of the Jupiter exploration well on block BM-S-24 in the Santos Basin, encountering a large natural gas and light oil field in the pre-salt layer. And it has confirmed a huge 3-4billion barrel discovery, now named Iara.
