Former Schlumberger chief executive Andrew Gould is to take over as chairman at energy firm BG Group.
He will replace Sir Robert Wilson who today announced he would stand down as chairman at the end of the company’s annual general meeting in May.
Sir Robert, 68, joined BG’s board as a non-executive director in September 2002 and became chairman in January 2004.
He has overseen the firm’s growth from a market capitalisation of £10billion into a leading global oil and gas business now valued at about £45billion.
Mr Gould, 64, joined oil and gas services giant Schlumberger in 1975 and has held roles in finance and management in Asia, Europe and the US, culminating in being appointed chairman and chief executive officer in 2003.
He retired as chief executive in August 2011 and will stand down in April 2012 as chairman when he takes the same role at BG, where he was appointed a non-executive director earlier this year.
