OSLO: Aker Solutions says its Aker H-6e drilling rig hull has sailed from the Drydocks Dubai yard on a 50-day voyage to the Aker Solutions yard at Stord, Norway.
The company says the hull weighs 16,000 tons and is one of the largest drilling rigs to ever be towed. On arrival at Stord, the hull will be mated with the topside facility and subject to further construction work prior to delivery.
Aker Solutions has designed and is building two H-6e semi-submersible drilling rigs that are specially designed to conquer the challenges of deepwater drilling operations in harsh environments.
They are capable of drilling in waters as deep as 3,000m, with a maximum drillstring length of 10,000m.
