NOV Asep Elmar said yesterday that Aker Solutions had become the first major well-service company to commission its fully electric wireline intervention solution Nessie.
The remotely operated well-control and winch package is said to remove the need for hydraulic connections powered by diesel engines.
Westhill-based NOV Asep Elmar invested £1million in research and development hours alone to develop Nessie.
The technology has reached the final stages of commercialisation five years in advance of its original research and development schedule thanks to early adoption by Aker Solutions.
Andrew Douglas, sales and marketing director of NOV Asep Elmar, said: “Nessie is a breakthrough in using electronics and software to control well intervention equipment.
“Our in-house team of engineers in Westhill and Groot-Ammers, Netherlands, developed the technology from concept through design, manufacturing and testing.
“The first custom-built skid well-control packages are nearing completion at our Westhill manufacturing facility, where we have a world-class underground pressure-test facility. Our facility in the Netherlands is constructing the skid winch packages.”
