OPITO – the Oil and Gas Academy’s director of international business development is to join GlobalScot, the select group of international business leaders committed to advancing Scotland’s success around the world.
Ian Laing, who moved to Abu Dhabi in January 2008 to build the international arm of the academy, has accepted an invitation from First Minister Alex Salmond to join the elite group.
GlobalScot comprises more than 900 senior business leaders committed to promoting international investment in Scotland and opening up avenues for the country to tap into global business advice expertise and contacts.
Mr Laing has more than 30 years of international oil and gas industry experience in a career including technical positions in well servicing, founder and managing director of a consulting and training company and latterly as a consultant to the public and private sector supporting Scottish businesses to develop internationally.
He said of GlobalScot: “I am thrilled at the opportunity to join this prestigious group of fellow Scots. Building on my role within the academy, I am talking to a whole range of overseas companies that are looking at setting up operations in Europe and which might consider Scotland as a base; as well as advising Scottish companies seizing the opportunity to expand into this fast-growing region.”
