Italian oil services firm Saipem has reported a major cyber-attack on its servers.
The company said it had promptly discovered the attack and has taken “impact assessment measures”.
The Milan-based firm added that it was in the process of reporting the incident to the relevant authorities.
A spokeswoman for Saipem said: “Saipem informs that today a cyber-attack on its servers has promptly been identified.
“We are collecting all the elements useful for assessing the impact on our infrastructures and the actions to be taken to restore normal activities.
“We are also in the process of notifying the report of the incident to the competent authorities.”
Saipem was involved in the construction phase for the Statoil’s Hywind floating wind farm project off Peterhead last year using the Saipem 7000 crane vessel.
It also participated in the construction of Orsted’s Hornsea project off the Yorkshire coast in 2018.
