STARTING salary up to £25,000, plus “superb benefits” – so says British Energy in its latest advertising designed to attract attention from the latest crop of university graduates.
However, whereas Read (see page lead) offers a four-year scheme, Britain’s nuclear power company offers just a two-year programme.
Read spells out its scheme simply – the punter can make his or her mind up about how good it is.
The power company is pushy. It tells its candidates that they have “a great deal to gain, which is what makes the British Energy graduate scheme so impressive”.
That is for the candidate to decide.
It also claims extensive green credentials – “Not only is British Energy the UK’s largest producer of electricity, but we’re the lowest carbon emitter of the major UK electricity generators, focused on delivering clean, affordable energy for the long term”.
One hopes the company can unequivocally back that claim.
British Energy is looking for a 2:2 minimum; (if a 3rd degree, it must be accompanied by a postgraduate qualification in engineering, sciences or business areas).
Industrial placement experience is preferred.
Interestingly, the company is willing to offer relocation assistance; that is rare at graduate level, even in upstream oil&gas.
Anyone considering applying should bear in mind that the collapse in takeover talks with French company EDF should have no impact on the scheme. British Energy will continue to go about its business as usual.
