A CHALLENGE has gone out to workers to get fit, have fun and help good causes by joining one of the largest team-building and fundraising events in the energy industry.
BG Group, the global natural gas business, is hosting the BG Energy Challenge 2010 in Aviemore from July 8-10. So far, 30 teams have signed up to join event “ambassador” Sir Geoff Hurst – England’s hat-trick hero in the 1966 football World Cup final – at the start line.
Over the past 15 years, the annual gathering has raised more than £2.3million for overseas development agency Care International and children’s medical research charity Sparks.
Peter Greaves, who works in BG Group’s UK upstream business in Aberdeen and led his team to victory in its category last year, said: “Not only does the BG Energy Challenge help raise funds for great causes but it also enables teams to forge relationships and friendships with colleagues within their companies and across industry.
“It’s this networking element, together with the opportunity to get fit and raise funds, which has made the challenge such a hit with the industry.”
Aviemore and the surrounding Highlands will test participants’ stamina, teamwork and communication skills to the limit through a series of physical, intellectual and strategic challenges.
The teams will kayak, orienteer and run their way through a series of stages and face tasks ranging from complex construction to code-breaking.
A BG Group-hosted reception in Aberdeen tonight will give local participants a chance to get training tips and course information, while new teams signing up will receive a 10% discount on the registration fees.
