AMEC has won a $100million contract with Syncrude Canada to begin early project development for the company’s Mildred Lake and Aurora operations in northern Alberta.
It will begin immediately on the five-year commitment to provide engineering design and project management services for new and existing facilities.
The UK group will also develop plans for relocating and improving processing facilities as well as applying new technologies. The project includes improving tailings management, bitumen recovery and energy efficiency.
In addition to engineering and project management for major oil-sands facilities, Amec provides the sector with environmental consulting, foundation systems, simulation modelling and technical operator training. The company has been active in the oil sands since 1967 and plays a significant role in most of the major mineable oil-sands projects in Canada.
On the Asia front, Amec’s Malaysian joint-venture company with MMC Oil & Gas has been awarded a detailed engineering design contract by Shell Philippines Exploration. Under the two-year contract, value not disclosed, MMC Amec will provide project management, engineering and related services for an asset integrity and de-bottlenecking project on the Malampaya gas field in the Philippines and will cover both the field’s integrated platform and onshore gas plant.
The contract is part of the Malampaya Deep Water Gas to Power development.
