THE Robert Gordon University’s Department of Law at Aberdeen Business School has launched what it says is the first one-year postgraduate Masters in oil & gas law to be delivered solely online.
The LLM/MSc Oil & Gas Law is aimed primarily at graduates with a law background, but is also suited to graduates of other disciplines who would benefit from legal training in relation to their work.
The university says the course is designed to equip students with analytical skills and knowledge to provide them with a solid foundation for work in this sector and enable them to undertake more challenging roles within their present employment.
Course leader Moe Alramahi, of Robert Gordon’s Aberdeen Business School, said: “We developed the distance-learning mode to accommodate the increasing number of oil industry professionals who need some law training but find it difficult to commit because of busy schedules and may be moved offshore or to another country at short notice.
“This course is flexible to fit the lifestyle of the student no matter where they are in the world.”
Students will critically assess and examine key legal issues in the industry, both in the UK and in other leading jurisdictions. Course materials have been prepared and are delivered by specialist oil&gas lawyers and academics in the department of law.
The online course also includes material on the environmental aspects of oil&gas law.
More than 120 had signed up to the course as Energy went to press and Alramahi’s ambition is 200 by August 31.
