The subsea services business line of Fugro has developed over the past two years. It mainly services the oil and gas industry, but increasingly the emerging renewables market, too.
The main activities focus on the provision of the following services:
Inspection, maintenance and repair
Construction support
ROV and diving services
Subsea engineering and tooling
Fugro delivers its subsea services through a global network of offices and facilities in Houston, Rio, Macao, Aberdeen, Lagos, Bergen, Cairo, Baku, Abu Dhabi, Mumbai, Singapore and Perth. Local project-related offices are backed up by this regional support organisation.
Key assets:
Vessels, ROV and diving support
Qualified and skilled personnel
Comprehensive range of ROVs
Advanced inspection technologies
Remote intervention technology and engineering
Air and saturation diving services in certain key regions
New vessel
The latest construction support vessel – Fugro Symphony – is currently undergoing sea trials and will be delivered this month.
Fugro Symphony is a purpose built ROV support vessel specifically designed to address the demands of the deepwater remote intervention, construction and survey markets, now and in the future.
Ordered following the successful introduction of the ST327L Fugro Saltire in 2008, the 130m ST327L-CD Fugro Symphony is longer by 19m and features an enlarged deck space, plus a number of upgrades designed to enhance the overall utility and productivity of the vessel in its primary construction role.
She is equipped with a McGregor Hydramarine “Active Boost” 150T AHC knuckle-boom crane, capable of subsea lifts at 150Te in single fall mode down to 3,000m with active heave compensation, plus a separate 10T auxiliary subsea crane.
With two FCV3000 Work Class ROV systems located within the central hanger area, the full extent of the 1,400sq m main deck can be made available for project equipment.
A working moon-pool measuring 7.2 x 7.2m is situated immediately next to the hanger area overlooked by a large deck operations room.
The full reach of the 65m x 22m steel plate (22mm thick) main deck is designed for deck loading of 10T/sq m and offers the flexibility to carry substantial deck loads with minimal constraints on deck layout.
Fugro Subsea Services currently owns/operates 15 diving/ROV support construction vessels.
Staff
Fugro has been successful over the years in attracting talented and motivated people from a wide range of backgrounds. The company recognises that people are its biggest asset and several years ago this led to the creation of the Fugro Academy.
This is an internal learning and development organisation which was created in 2006 and provides a range of courses for Fugro staff at all levels; courses ranging from induction modules to technical/professional training and through to management development.
Courses are delivered variously by Fugro trainers and external providers. A blended learning approach means that courses may be traditional and instructor-led, or delivered online via e-learning or virtual classroom sessions. Some programmes combine elements of all three.
Fugro Subsea Services currently employs more than 1,400 employees.
ROVs and intervention engineering
Fugro Subsea Services designs, builds, owns and operates around 140 ROV systems. They are operated from the firm’s strategically located bases around the world, supporting clients drilling campaigns and subsea construction projects.
The ROVs use best-in-class system components and standardise on sub-systems across the fleet. A global approach ensures that critical long-lead spares are stocked regionally and a global ROV helpline provides 24-hour support to offshore teams and ensures that information updates are quickly relayed.
Focusing on the provision of subsea engineering and intervention tooling solutions, Fugro Subsea Services can provide a reliable, adaptive and highly innovative service.
In-house capabilities include:
o Design and build of standard and bespoke intervention tools and skids
o Xmas Tree interface packages
o Client tool inventory management
o Feasibility studies
o Design of intervention equipment for pipeline repairs, anode retro-fitting and subsea cutting

Whether the requirement is for observation, sensor deployment or a full manipulator intervention task, Fugro will have the specific ROV for the requirement.
The company is also developing a new range of inspection techniques for use on FPS flexible risers and other structures on production systems.
