Oil service firm Peterson SBS has revealed plans to invest £1.5million in its operations at Aberdeen Harbour to meet increasing demand from offshore clients.
The Granite City company said it had leased a further two berths from Aberdeen Harbour Board to bring its total number to five.
Peterson said it had also taken on additional premises – including a transit warehouse and office accommodation for its operations team – and was developing a new fuel tank for marine gas oil.
The firm, which employs nearly 200 people in Aberdeen, said the warehouse would be used to handle around 350,000 tonnes for consignment offshore every year.
Peterson managing director Mike Porter said: “The international sea freight market is a key target for Peterson SBS in 2012 and to meet the needs of this sector we have increased our quayside operations by leasing two more berths at Waterloo Quay.
“We also anticipate 25% uplift in demand for these services from our existing North Sea clients.”
Mr Porter added Peterson was the only oil and gas logistics firm with its own private berthage in Aberdeen.
He said: “These developments are part of our strategic plan to grow the business.
“We have developed a strong customer base and this is continuing to rise with recent contract wins, along with increased demand for our services.
“The expansion of our facilities will allow us to increase and improve the range of logistics management solutions we provide.”
As well as the 195 Peterson employs in the Granite City, it also has a 47-strong workforce in Shetland. It employs 346 people across the UK in total.
