SARTOR Offshore Rescue (SOR), the Aberdeen-based safety standby operation of Norway’s Sartor Offshore Group, said yesterday it had won North Sea rescue and recovery contracts worth £35million during the first two months of 2010.
The new work includes a deal to supply Total Exploration and Production (E&P) UK with the Ocean Ness field-support vessel for up to 10 years, which SOR said would safeguard at least 30 jobs among its 300-strong workforce.
Ocean Ness is due to leave Aberdeen next week for its 130-mile journey to Total’s Elgin and Franklin fields in the central North Sea.
The 1,864-tonne vessel is designed for offshore rescue, tanker and field assistance and towing in addition to carrying and unloading cargo to rigs and production platforms. She has recently completed a 10-year contract with Shell and TAQA supporting the Tern, Eider and North Cormorant fields.
She has capacity for 300 passengers and is equipped with two fast-rescue and two daughter craft.
SOR manages a fleet of 13 emergency-response rescue, multi-role and platform-supply vessels out of Aberdeen, all of which are working in the North Sea. One of them will soon be leaving the Granite City to start work on a contract in Brazil.
SOR managing director John Bryce said: “Winning a number of contracts, including the Total contract, is a very positive start to the year as well as recognition of our excellent safety record.”
