FINNISH engineering consultancy Poyry has joined to growing list of companies with an Aberdeen presence to set up a dedicated team to exploit renewable energy-related opportunities – especially offshore.
The group says the Scottish north-east is the “ideal location” to expand its offering in the UK.
It says it is “in talks” with a number of organisations in the region regarding its services and will be attending and exhibiting at this year’s All-Energy, where the intention is to speak with further key players within the fast-growing renewables sector.
Poyry already employs more than 60 people in the city through its oil&gas division. The renewable energy service will provide a gateway to businesses wanting to tap into the company’s existing network of more than 250 renewable-energy experts.
Dr Christian Tribbe, renewables leader in Aberdeen, said: “Poyry has been active in the UK in hydro, biomass and waste-to-energy for many years, and the time is now right for us to build our UK services, which will primarily focus on wind and marine energy.
“Our wind-power track record is established throughout Europe and our Aberdeen teams bring offshore expertise to complement that capability.”
Poyry has been active in renewables for more than 20 years and so already has a significant track record.
It recently announced the award of a 46million euro (£43million) EPC (engineering, procurement, construction) contract for a total of 35 megawatts of biomass to power infrastructure in the Philippines.
