OPUS, a company focused on improving the environmental performance of oil and gas production, hailed the progress yesterday of divisional laboratories in Orkney.
It said its Flotta-based environmental lab division was on course for a highly successful year on the back of a strong financial performance, despite the recent recession. Opus added that the environmental labs were poised to record a significant increase in turnover for the year to May, against the £509,000 in 2008-09.
It said the division had a bright opening six months to the current trading year, conducting tests for 49 clients.
In response to recent growth, including a 2% rise in turnover last year, the workforce at the labs has grown from eight to 10.
Environmental lab business manager Alan Dundas said his team was now reaping the rewards of years of hard work, during which it had established itself as a major international player in its market. He added: “It’s extremely encouraging to see us build on our success year by year, including through the recession.
“We are on track to record significant growth, both in terms of turnover and the number of studies we have commissioned.”
Opus said the division undertook 569 commissioned studies during 2008-09, with a further 420 being done in the current trading year to date.
Mr Dundas said: “We’re determined to drive the business forward and expand into new areas.”
Opus provides a range of engineering and environmental services to the offshore oil and gas industry.
