Scottish firm Weir Oil and Gas has announced it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASOIU).
Glasgow-headquartered Weir, part of Weir Group, said the agreement would see the company share their oil and gas expertise with ASOUI through workshops, seminars, joint projects and internship programs.
It will focus on technologies and products used as part of oilfield technology and machinery.
Students will benefit from hands-on training in assembly and repair as well as attending seminars on design, operation and testing of specific equipment.
Internship programmes will also be introduced to prepare students for the oil and gas sector.
Altug Bilgic, general manager of Russia and Central Asia for Weir Oil and Gas, said: “Weir is delighted to have signed this Memorandum of Understanding with Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University.
“The University is a highly-regarded institution and we look forward to providing real-world opportunities to expand on their current teachings.”
Mr Bilgic, and ASOIU’s rector, Mustafa Babanli, were on hand for the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding.
Dr. Carole Crofts, the British Ambassador to Azerbaijan was also there.
Mr Babanli said: “Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University recognizes Weir as a leader in the oil and gas industry and is thrilled to have the opportunity to learn from their expertise.
“We believe that for our teachers and students alike, the education and support Weir can provide will lead to bettering our institution and preparing our students to be part of the industry’s future.”
