BRITAIN’S biggest chandler Hutton’s has opened its largest depot in Aberdeen following increased business from the offshore oil and gas industry.
Hull-based Hutton’s has expanded its operation in the Granite City into a larger 13,000sq ft site which it is leasing from Aberdeen Harbour Board.
The Sinclair Road premises comprise a warehouse, office and yard space.
The firm said the move had given it considerably increased warehouse capacity and it had already invested heavily in equipment such as chill and freezer facilities, pallets and IT systems.
Managing director Alex Taylor, who was in Aberdeen for an open day yesterday to show off the new premises, said: “This move is a great development for Hutton’s, both increasing our capacity and improving our facilities.
“We have invested in excess of £100,000 so far and plan to invest another £250,000 in the next 12 months.”
Hutton’s has six branches offering a wide range of products and services to the international shipping and offshore industry, with about 95% of UK ports within a two-hour drive of one.
Mr Taylor said: “Our Aberdeen branch opened only 3
“We have already recruited two more staff in Aberdeen, taking the total to seven, and will hire a few more in the next few months.”
