THE US Interior Department’s Minerals Management Service (MMS) has reported that Hurricane Ike destroyed 49 of the 3,800 offshore oil&gas production platforms in the US Gulf of Mexico.
The MMS said it had no information on whether any of the destroyed platforms would be rebuilt by any operator.
It said operators were still assessing damaged infrastructure.
The MMS said that initial estimates were that the 49 destroyed production platforms produced a total of 13,000 barrels of oil and 84million cu ft of gas per day.
Additional damage reported included three jack-ups and one platform drilling rig destroyed and one jack-up drilling rig with extensive damage.
