ABERDEEN firm iicorr said yesterday it was continuing to strengthen its position as a leading provider of corrosion solutions to the marine and oil and gas sectors.
The firm, which recently announced the acquisition of Hampshire firm Subspection for an undisclosed seven-figure sum, said that its cathodic-protection service division had secured new contracts worth about £220,000. Its new projects involve finding ways to stop billions of pounds worth of damage being done by accelerated low-water corrosion (ALWC) to steel structures worldwide.
The work includes three contracts at UK harbours and two for the field-life extension of offshore platforms.
Divisional team leader Kevin Paterson said: “ALWC is a worldwide corrosion problem which can compromise the structural integrity of a steel structure if left untreated, resulting in costly repairs. We are confident we will continue to develop industry-leading solutions to the problem.”
One of the projects among recent contract wins involves the design, installation and commissioning of a corrosion-protection system for Montrose Port Authority (MPA) and is valued at £65,000.
MPA chief executive John Paterson said: “Corrosion of metal structures within water is unavoidable for all ports and harbours.
“By working together with the corrosion engineers at iicorr we and our consulting engineers are confident that we will remain on top of the situation ensuring the safety of our personnel and prolonging the life expectancy of our structural assets.”
