Aberdeen-based oil and gas environmental waste management company TWMA is up for an award.
It is a finalist in the second annual BABC Houston International Business Awards, in the small-mid sized business category.
The awards, open to UK and US firms of all sizes and from various sectors, are a programme of the British-American Business Council Houston designed to recognise companies excelling in trade and investment between Texas and the UK.
The awards lunch will take place on Wednesday, October 5, in Houston.
Becci Himes, executive director of the business council, said: “UK companies invest $20billion (£12.9billion) into the economy of Texas annually. And, there is roughly $8billion (£5.16billion) in trade between the UK and Texas. The UK is the single largest foreign investor in Texas. UK companies account for nearly a fifth of all jobs created by foreign-owned affiliates in the state.
“BABC wants the companies participating in this transatlantic trade to receive the recognition they deserve for the vital role they play in the economies of Texas and the UK.”
Ian Nicolson, vice president business development for the Americas with TWMA, said: “We are delighted to have been shortlisted for the BABC awards and to have the successful progression of our strategic growth plans acknowledged here.
“We recently announced the expansion of our American operations, due to several significant contract wins in the region, and the creation of up to 100 jobs at our Houston base. The recruitment drive is underway with a number of personnel now working as part of the specialist team and we are moving to a larger base in Houston with engineering facilities to support maintenance and service of equipment operating across the Americas.
“In the past couple of years, we have made several significant steps forward in terms of the strategic growth plans of the company within the US and look forward to further strengthening relations between the UK and the US.”
