An explosion from a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tanker at a Turkish port has left one Italian crew member dead and 15 others injured, according to news reports.
Reuters reports the incident took place at the port of Aliaga in the country’s Izmir province on Monday.
Governor Erhan Gunay told reporters that the vessel was anchored at the Petkim petrochemical plant operated by Azerbaijani oil firm SOCAR.
Roberto Montegurdia was killed in the explosion.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
SOCAR said all injured workers had been discharged to hospital.
