CANADIAN oil and gas firm Talisman Energy will part company with a well-known face in Aberdeen business circles next week after a decision by its current UK manager and senior vice-president John Forrest to retire early.
Geoff Holmes, who is currently deputy managing director of Talisman’s Norwegian subsidiary, replaces Mr Forrest on February 14. Mr Forrest, 55, joined Talisman from ExxonMobil in 2000. He is also co-chairman of industry group Step Change in Safety, a post he will retain until his successor is appointed in the spring.
Mr Forrest said: “It has been a privilege to lead the Talisman UK organisation over the last two years. I want to thank everybody I have worked with for their tremendous team spirit and support. I now feel the time is right to move on.”
Malcolm Webb, chief executive at industry body Oil and Gas UK, said Mr Forrest had given “great service” to the oil and gas sector. He added: “He has not only championed the case for safety but has also been an eloquent and effective advocate for the independent operators. Always on the ball and constantly delivering intelligent insights and constructive proposals, John is a great example to others.
“He is a positive force for good who has helped us to improve our performance.”
Mr Holmes, 42, has been with Talisman since 2006, and was vice-president of its UK northern business area before going to Norway. He said: “I am delighted to take on my new role. Our North Sea business has exciting opportunities and challenges, and I’m looking forward to working with the outstanding team at Talisman UK once again.”
