GROWING Aberdeen-based service company Brinker is focused on taking an innovative and scientific approach to reducing downtime and improving safety when tackling asset and well integrity leaks.
The company’s leak-plugging Platelet product is a highly engineered technology that was developed over five years and has been used in a diverse range of situations for many major operators and independents since it was brought to the market in 2004.
Now, having engaged support through the Industry Technology Facilitator (ITF), Brinker is taking its Platelets to a new range of downhole applications by developing the technology to withstand up to 3,500psi (pounds per square inch) positive or negative pressure.
Platelets are discrete particles that are injected into a suspect well or pipe and locate the leak by travelling with the flow in the system.
Taking inspiration from the way in which the human body heals wounds, the fluid movement in the well or pipe, such as casing, is used to position a cluster of Platelets at the leak site and provide a seal.
