The latest All-Energy show in Aberdeen is yet another record-breaker.
The two-day event, which finished yesterday, attracted around 5,350 visitors — almost 15% up on last year.
All-Energy, staged annually at Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre, has grown steadily since it was first held in 2001, when the attendance was just 350.
This year saw more than 370 exhibitors from 13 countries occupying the Press and Journal Arena and Boyd Orr Hall. There were also 250 speakers.
Project director Judith Patten said: “The feedback from exhibitors has been very positive – they are delighted with the quality of inquiries from delegates. We also had excellent speakers.
“Exhibitors are eager to book up again for next year – and that probably says it all. Britain may be in recession, but renewable energy has important targets to meet.”
Scottish companies were equally upbeat.
Xodus Group was one of seven firms exhibiting at the Orkney pavilion. Principal environmental consultant Liz Foubister said: “We used the show as an opportunity to launch our new integrated risk-management software, XRISK. The response and interest has been incredible.
“What has been most refreshing is that, despite the economic downturn, there has been very little mention of the recession and its effect on business.”
Aberdeen-based Green Ocean Energy displayed its Ocean Treader and Wave Treader technology.
Managing director George Smith said: “We are delighted by the level of interest. We’ve had some very interesting talks with a number of energy companies and potential investors and we look forward to progressing these.”
Aberdeen Renewable Energy Group featured 28 exhibitors as its pavilion. Chief operating officer Morag McCorkindale said: “The number of visitors has been phenomenal and we have been involved in a lot of extremely positive business discussions as well as receiving a lot of interest in membership.”
Nial McCollam, managing director of Aberdeen-based Senergy Alternative Energy, said: “The level of activity and vibrancy at this year’s All-Energy is by far the best of all the similar international shows I’ve been to.”
Aberdeen and Inverness sustainable-energy service firm Active said that, after exhibiting last year, the renewables side of its business had gone from strength to strength. “”We have had inquiries ranging from single homeowners to private housing developers,” said managing director Ian Nicol. “This is a market which we are keen to grow into and expect to generate strong revenues moving forward.”
Doug Whyte, managing director of Aberdeen-based Hydro Group, a specialist in optical and electrical products for the subsea industry, said: “It has been a great opportunity for us to meet existing and potential clients and show them hardware. It is the second time we have exhibited and we have been very impressed with the industry focus.”
Next year’s event is on May 19-20.
