PORTLETHEN-BASED Aker Qserv has received the Opito stamp of approval to deliver key industry safety and training standards as part of a course which helps to open up the oil and gas industry to skilled engineers looking for a career move from other industries.
The specialist well-intervention, process and pipeline services company has won accreditation to deliver the Minimum Industry Safety Training (Mist) standard as part of its multiservice technician programme.
The eight-week competency based scheme allows students with a mechanical background to gain vital classroom and hands-on experience of the equipment and tools used by Aker Qserv in providing the best services to clients.
The award makes Aker Qserv one of only a handful of companies worldwide to be approved to deliver the Mist course. Director Ciaran Dreelan said: “Achieving Opito accreditation is a significant achievement and demonstrates our ongoing commitment to training and developing the next generation of skilled and competent operational oil and gas personnel.”
Jim Cameron, standards and approvals director at Opito, said: “Following a rigorous audit process, we are delighted that Aker Qserv has attained approval to deliver Mist to its own employees as part of this overall training package for the industry.
“The introduction of fresh entrants to the oil and gas sector is vital to ensuring we have a safe, skilled and competent workforce both now and in the future.”
