Sparrows Group has been dedicated to improving the standards of offshore lifting operations since the inception of the UK North Sea oil industry and has led the way with its industry standard for offshore crane operators.
At the Tyrebagger facility in Aberdeen, the unique set up is the only one of its kind with a full size offshore pedestal crane located within a controlled training environment.
Although the crane operator standard has remained consistent over the years, the training centre offering has grown and now includes working at height, LOLER lift planning/risk assessment, rigger, and hydraulics courses. All Sparrows’ training courses reflect the goal of building a strong safety culture in the workforce and with more than 40 years’ experience of applying that in oil and gas, the company is transferring those skills across multiple industries.
During Offshore Europe week the centre is opening its doors and welcoming visitors in to tour the site. The open days on Wednesday 4th and Thursday 5th September will showcase Sparrows’ engineering and technical solutions with the opportunity to meet technical authorities from a range of disciplines.
There’s also the chance to try the new remotely operated Windmaster crane designed for the renewables industry, trial a new virtual reality banksman training course, attend hydraulic oil cleanliness presentations and test the cleanliness of oil in the new LPA3 particle counter, and learn more about the wide variety of work scopes and industries supported.
Visitors who would like to attend can email laura.stewart@sparrowsgroup.com for more information.
