ABERDEEN-BASED presenting and magic firm Fifth Dimension could revolutionise offshore health and safety training after landing a contract with oil and gas company Apache.
The business is to deliver innovative seminars for workers on five platforms in the Forties field in the UK North Sea.
Fifth Dimension has been working with Apache to present “magically enhanced” health, safety and environmental (HSE) sessions to staff on the Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta and Echo installations.
The firm, which has extensive experience in presenting HSE seminars across the UK for people in the onshore oil and gas sector, will deliver the presentations – devised to highlight hazard-awareness considerations – by using magical effects and illustrations to maximise the effectiveness of the sessions.
Fifth Dimension’s will make 10 two-day trips to the platforms to present the sessions to more than 800 workers. Partner Ivor Smith was delighted to have secured the contract with Apache, which he felt heralded an exciting new chapter for the company.
He said: “Working with Apache is a major development for Fifth Dimension, as we look to further capitalise on the need for unique – but highly effective – training methods. While we have already built an impressive reputation for delivering innovative HSE seminars onshore for the oil and gas industry, we feel that with the capability to now travel offshore an array of additional opportunities within the sector has opened up.
“Through injecting creativity into what can, at times, be perceived as a dry topic we look forward to delivering an extremely serious and important message in a fun way, which will see key messages not only presented but – essentially – retained.”
Forties Alpha offshore installation manager Billy Muir said the Fifth Dimension sessions had been extremely effective, with high levels of engagement and participation, adding: “It was also good how they made the connection between their magic tricks and interventions and safety conversations on the worksite.”
The value of the Apache contract to Fifth Dimension has not been disclosed, but is thought to be worth a five-figure sum.
