ABERDEEN company ROVision has completed its first subsea inspection job for Rowan Drilling at Dundee and has more work in hand for the same company.
The firm, founded six months ago by experienced remotely operated vehicle (ROV) supervisors Tony Hutchinson and Tony McConnell, is also about to undertake inspection work in Sweden for the Swedish navy. This follows the pair taking a £200,000 bank loan and investing £100,000 of their own money to acquire two ROVs. They also have sole use of a third ROV on a sub-lease.
The two men have military backgrounds, both ex-Royal Air Force, including at RAF Lossiemouth, in hydraulic, avionic and computer engineering.
Between them, they have 20 years of ROV experience, having worked in Africa, America, south-east and central Asia, the Middle East and the North Sea.
ROVision so far is a small operation, with Mr Hutchinson and Mr McConnell the only staff so far, although contractors are also hired for contracts as required.
Mr Hutchinson said the aim was to expand in due course and hopefully add another two ROVs to the company’s fleet within a year.
The present fleet is capable of inspection and light manipulation work.
