ABERDEEN-BASED Dominion Gas is to become a main supplier of industrial gas for the Nord Stream gas pipeline project linking Russia and the European Union via the Baltic Sea.
Dominion was awarded the work by Italian oilfield service company Saipem in a deal worth upwards of £1.7million over two years.
Nord Stream will transport enough gas to supply more than 26million households.
The deal involves Dominion supplying welding gases and equipment for construction of the pipeline. Dominion managing director Doug Crighton said: “As a result of this contract, we have already begun investing in new equipment to meet the demands of the project.
“Dominion has now been the primary industrial gas supplier for two of the world’s longest subsea pipelines, an achievement which we are very proud of, and our teams are looking forward to getting this project up and running.”
Dominion has annual turnover of more than £25million and employs 85 staff worldwide.
