EXPERTS from the oil and gas and renewable-energy sectors will gather in Aberdeen next week to discuss the similarities in technical challenges faced by different parts of the energy industry.
Delegates will examine the opportunities for transferring technology and expertise from offshore exploration into alternative energy.
The Oil and Gas and Alternative Energy Technology Crossover event will be held at the Enterprise Centre, Aberdeen Science and Energy Park, on Monday.
Nial McCollam, chief executive of Senergy Alternative Energy, part of Aberdeen-based energy group Senergy, is a speaker at the event. He will illustrate the technology lessons learned from 40 years of offshore exploration while emphasising some of the diverse approaches required by relatively new challenges such as offshore wind.
Mr McCollam will offer delegates insight into how Senergy has used its offshore experience to position itself to capitalise on business diversification and highlight how other innovative firms can do the same.
The event will be hosted by Aberdeen-based En-ergise, a not-for-profit network organisation which helps energy technology companies to identify and capitalise on business growth opportunities.
En-ergise director Dorothy Burke said: “Aberdeen is home to so many of the oil and gas industry’s key players and, until recently, most energy companies have focused on developing technologies and expertise to enhance exploration and production. Now we have to focus on driving the same type of initiatives to bring forward alternative energy projects and this event is an opportunity for developers to understand how technology can be transferred.”
