The new boss of oil giant Shell in Aberdeen officially starts in the post today.
Previously, Glen Cayley – who has 30 years’ experience in the industry – was based with the company in The Hague.
The new technical vice-president for Shell Upstream Europe is no stranger to the Granite City, however.
He gained a post-graduate degree in petroleum geology from Aberdeen University after graduating from Liverpool University with a BSc in geology.
After then spending more than 25 years with ExxonMobil, he joined Shell in 2006 as vice-president of global exploration.
Before his move to Aberdeen, he was Shell’s chief petroleum engineer and vice-president for development (front-end studies) for Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Russia.
Mr Cayley said yesterday: “I am looking forward to working with the teams at Shell Aberdeen.
“Currently, Shell has an exciting development plan for the Fram field in the central North Sea and we continue to see opportunities to develop and shape our portfolio of assets to suit our strengths.”
He has also joined the board of industry body Oil and Gas UK.
Mr Cayley added: “In my new role, I hope to contribute where I can on UK industry priorities such as safety, work on oilspill prevention and response, maximising the recovery of the UK’s oil and gas, and building a sustainable UK industry.”
His Aberdeen predecessor, John Gallagher, is now executive vice-president for Shell Upstream Global Solutions, based in The Hague.
