ON SEPTEMBER 2, a memorial service to celebrate the life of Mary Dwyer, former public-affairs manager of Total E&P UK, was held in the Oil Chapel, St Nicholas Kirk, Aberdeen, and presided over by North Sea chaplain the Reverend Andrew J. Jolly.
Mary died suddenly in London on July 28 this year, aged 64. Prior to her retirement in 2003, she had worked for the French petroleum company for 23 years within the public affairs and corporate communication department.
Latterly, Mary worked as public-affairs manager in Total’s London office, but had previously spent seven years in Aberdeen following a company reorganisation in 1993. She had a very close working relationship with Michel Contie, who led the UK business for some years before climbing further up the corporate ladder.
Mary was well known for her professionalism, commitment and extensive knowledge of the oil&gas industry, but perhaps more importantly, known for her compassionate and caring nature towards others.
What especially struck Energy’s editor about this Canadian was her loyalty and the astonishing serenity of her voice – exceptional and rare. Moreover, it was an absolute reflection of the woman herself; someone very special.
