The global downturn in the oil and gas industry means it is now more important than ever for companies to showcase themselves, according to an organisation promoting the energy industry in the north of Scotland.
North Scotland Industries Group (NSIG), based at Invergordon, is once again exhibiting at OTC and is sharing its stand with some of its 80-plus members. NSIG chief executive Ian Couper said that OTC was an ideal opportunity for companies based in the north to meet key decision makers in the global oil and gas industry with the hope that contracts could be secured.
He said: “OTC gives our members a shop window to the world.
“There is a strong commitment from our membership in the north of Scotland to develop their business overseas and there is no better opportunity than this.
“As part of our responsibility to our members, we are facilitating that opportunity by taking a stand at the show.
“We all recognise that there is a downturn in the industry and there are stories of companies in the Gulf of Mexico and elsewhere putting projects on hold until the climate improves. But it is exactly for that reason that companies should be here, making contacts with the decision makers, meeting potential new clients face to face and stealing a march on competitors so that, hopefully, they will win whatever new business becomes available.”
OTC has traditionally provided an excellent opportunity for north companies to do business, and NSIG expects that to continue this year. Mr Couper said: “Last year, one member who took space on our stand secured a contract at the show, while others picked up strong leads which led to orders down the line.
“OTC has been very fertile ground for our members in the past and, even though times are tight, we would expect them to do well again at this year’s show.”
